Practical effects, like eyes with eye lids, were shot on each location to allow for eye blinks to be added in post.
With Vimla being an unknown brand – struggling to explain who and what they are – we decided that (whenever possible) we should feature smartphones or tablets and strengthen the association to telecom.
The characters were designed in 2D and then sent off to the John Nolan Studio (UK) to be modeled digitally in 3D. After tweaks and revisions they were cut with a CNC machine and then textured and painted.
Being an Art Director with OCD tendencies can benefit the end result but is sometimes a bit demanding for other team members and subcontractors...
The sections in the face below have different textures and paint applications. We ended up going with the lower right – a somewhat translucent silicon texture that caught the light and filmed and photographed really well.
